PRO PERFORMANCE PRESCRIPTION SPORTS GLASSES

haegelle-2011-web.jpg

Rapid Eyewear's Pro Performance multi-lens Rx prescription sports glasses are renowned as being some of the best on the market. If you would like us to add the prescription lenses, choose either single-vision or bifocal lenses from the drop-down menu above before completing your purchase. More detailed information on this process can be found below.

Pro Performance sunglasses are suitable for most types of sports and leisure activities. If you want to add a clear, untinted lens to the package, buy the Pro Performance Plus instead (listed as a separate product in this section).

The Frames

Our prescription sunglasses are built around a matt-black finished frame that has a prescription Rx clip housed in the back, whilst the tinted, interchangeable lenses sit on the front. This two-part arrangement allows for great versatility and performance, whilst the wrap-around styling blocks unwanted wind and light encroaching from the sides and bottom of your vision. The Pro Performance sunglasses look good too, easily matching the style of many non-prescription designs.

The frames are lightweight and tough, whilst the Rx clip, made from an ultra tough TR90 compound, ensures maximum protection for your eyes from impact.

The tinted lenses clip onto the top of the frames, allowing them to be flipped up for momentary 'normal' vision when required.

De-Centred and Anti-Scratch Coated Lenses

Wrap-around sunglasses offer great benefits when it comes to blocking unwanted light and wind from the sides of your vision, but placing a curved lens in front of your eyes would normally cause distortion. However, all Rapid Eyewear lens sets are de-centred, which means they are calibrated to remove the distorting effect.

By filtering blue light, Rapid Eyewear lenses improve contrast and depth perception, making them perfect for use on the road. Polarised lenses remove glare by filtering horizontal light.

The Package

Pro Performance prescription sunglasses come with the following as standard:

  • Category 0 (yellow) lenses, for low light use, making them perfect for use on cloudy, dull days
  • Category 2 (beige, polarised) lenses. A good all-rounder, useful in partial sunshine and fairly bright conditions The polarised filter greatly reduces glare
  • Category 3 polarised (flash mirror). Perfect for sunny conditions - the polarised filter greatly reduces glare, making for better definition

How To Order

To add prescription lenses, choose your preferred option from the drop-down menu at the top of this page and fill in the boxes that appear before proceeding to the checkout. Please read through the information below before you proceed.

Is My Prescription Suitable?

Pro Performance sunglasses can be used for any regular prescription where the SPH (Sphere) requirement is less than, or greater than, 4.5. Due to the curvature of the tinted lenses, they will not be suitable for those with very strong prescription requirements that exceed 4.5.

They are also suitable for bifocal, varifocal and prismatic lenses but please note, we cannot add varifocal or prismatic prescriptions ourselves - please buy the sunglasses only and refer the work to your optician.

Pupillary Distance (PD)

This is the distance, in millimetres, between the pupils of your eyes, when measured across the front of your glasses. PD's typically fall in the range of 55 up to 70mm. If you choose to have us make up your prescription sunglasses, we will need to know your PD. Opticians measure PD during an eye test, but they often do not put the result on a prescription card provided to the patient. If you do not know your PD, please ask your optician what it is. Unfortunately, some opticians will not release the measurement and in the UK, they are not obliged to do so.

You can measure your own PD easily. With your regular glasses on, ask someone to hold a ruler up against your glasses and measure off, in millimetres, the distance between the centres of your pupils.

How Long Does it Take to Make My Prescription?

Turnaround times from date of order is typically 7 - 10 days for UK orders, and a little longer for overseas.

Can You Fit Varifocal or Prismatic Lenses?

Please note that we cannot fit varifocal or prismatic lenses - your optician will be able to help with these requirements.

I Am Not in the UK - Will You Still Add My Prescription?

Yes! Our full prescription service is now available to customers worldwide and there are no extra fees.

Conformity

Rapid Eyewear sunglasses conform to ISO 12311 and 12312 standards for sunglasses and protective equipment testing. They offer 100% UVA / UVB (UV400) protection and comply with Z80.3.

Extra Tinted lenses

If you play golf, you may want to consider adding our green mirror Category 3 lens option from the drop-down menu at the top of this page before completing your purchase. There is a dark, smoked Category 4 lens available for extreme sun conditions. (please note this lens is not suitable for driving). If you would like a clear lens with your package, please go back to the Sport Sunglasses category page and select 'Pro Performance Plus' instead.
