Rapid Eyewear's British-designed Altius combine strength, style, comfort and cutting edge lens technology to provide you with the ultimate biker glasses.
If required, you can order a full prescription service for this product by selecting either 'single-vision' or 'bifocals' from the drop-down menu above. Please read the information further down this page about adding corrective lenses, before proceeding with this option.
Altius have a build quality and feature list that makes them outstanding value for money when compared to alternative high-end brands.
Manufactured from a tough nickel-silver, the high quality Altius nickel-silver frame is extremely robust, with solidly sprung hinges that do not exhibit the slop associated with cheaper sunglasses. Adjustable nose pads, and rubber side arm extensions enhance comfort levels. Finished in an attractive silver colour.
Utilising Rapid Eyewear's Multi Layer technology, Altius Category 3 lenses are packed with features. Made from impact resistant polycarbonate, the lenses are finished with a flash mirror coating that reflects light when outdoors.
Glare is caused by the sun's rays bouncing off horizontal surfaces, including the road, another car's windscreen etc. Polarised lenses remove glare by filtering out this horizontal light. Polarised lenses can be manufactured in one of two ways - cheaper sunglasses have filters stuck on to the front of the lens, and this does work to a large extent but for optimum performance the filters need to be built in to the lenses. Altius has this feature, providing the very best glare reduction possible.
The Altius lenses have a hard coating to make them as scratch resistant as possible. They also benefit from hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings, which resist grease and water.
By filtering blue light from the spectrum, Altius lenses improve depth perception and contrast, making it easier to judge the terrain or road ahead.
If you choose to add your prescription, our lab will fit tough C39 lenses finished with a hard coat on the front and an advanced Optimar XL AR coating to the rear. This coating reduces reflections and glare. CR39 is a material renowned for its natural anti-scratch resistance and general 'toughness.
Please note that prescription lenses do not have the oleophobic or hydrophobic coatings; in addition, they are not supplied as standard with a mirror coating, but this can be added at an additional cost. If you would like a flash mirror coating, please select the relevant option from the menu at the top of this page.
We can add single-vision (distance correction) or bifocal lenses, but not varifocals or prismatics. These sunglasses will be suitable for SPH (Sphere) diopter readings up to plus or minus 4.5.
If you are ordering a prescription service, please supply your PD reading if possible. PD is the distance between the centres of your eye pupils, when measured across your glasses (and not your face). Opticians measure PD and will know what it is, but they may be reluctant to give it to you. If you do not know your PD and you cannot find out, it is easy to measure; ask a friend to place a standard ruler up against your glasses and measure the distance - it will be in the range of 56 - 72mm, with 63 - 65mm being the most common.
If your prescription requirement is less than plus or minus 2.5 SPH, and you cannot determine your PD, we can set it to the national average of 63mm and your sunglasses will be fine. Above 2.5 it is important that we know your PD.
Rapid Eyewear sunglasses conform to the new ISO 12311 and 12312 standards for sunglasses and protective equipment testing. This standard has now replaced EN1836 in the European Union. They offer 100% UVA / UVB (UV400) protection.
