PHOTOCHROMIC PRESCRIPTION CYCLING SUNGLASSES: 'PRO PERFORMANCE PHOTO'

Rapid Eyewear's Pro Performance Photo provide the ideal solution for all types of bike riding, when light levels are likely to change. They consist of a wrap-around frame, Rx optical clip and a transitional lens that darkens with the light, changing from clear (untinted) to Category 3 and back again.

You can choose to have your single-vision or bifocal lenses added by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down menu above, and then adding your prescription details in the fields provided. You will find more detailed information below about this process. Alternatively, if you want to buy the product only and ask your own optician to add the corrective lenses, simply use the default option on the menu when completing your purchase.

The Frames

Pro Performance feature a matt-black finished frame, which has a prescription Rx clip housed in the back and a tinted lens assembly on the front. This two-part arrangement allows for great versatility and performance, whilst the wrap-around styling blocks unwanted light and wind encroaching from the sides and bottom of your vision. The Pro Performance look good too, easily matching the style of many non-prescription sunglasses designs.

The frames are lightweight and tough, whilst the Rx clip, made from an ultra tough polycarbonate compound, ensures maximum protection for your eyes from impact.

The tinted lens clips onto the top of the frame, allowing it to be flipped up for momentary non-tinted vision when required.

The Lens

Our new and innovative adaptive photochromic lens changes from clear, right down to Category 3 (for sunshine) and back again, as conditions change. Made from a tough polycarbonate material, the lens is anti-scratch coated and attaches to the main frame by means of a spring clip. You can flip up the lens for momentary 'normal' viewing if required.

How To Order

To add prescription lenses, choose your preferred option by clicking on the relevant button at the top of this page and then complete the information boxes that appear by matching the correct parameters from the drop-down menus with those on your dispensed eyeglasses prescription. Please read through the information below before you proceed.

If there is nothing written in some or all of the CYL (cylinder) and Axis boxes on your prescription (meaning you do not have astigmatism in one or both eyes), please select 0 from the menu where relevant. See the section below on 'Pupillary Distance' for information on what to enter here.

SPH (sphere) and CYL (cylinder) readings are always accompanied by a plus or minus sign. It is very important that you choose the correct plus or minus parameter from the menu for each reading. Sometimes if the readings are minus, the sign will be written above the numbers by your optician.

Is My Prescription Suitable?

Pro Performance Photo can be used for any regular spectacle prescription where the SPH (Sphere) requirement does not exceed 4.5 (whether the reading is plus or minus). Due to the curvature of the tinted lenses, they will not be suitable for those with very strong prescription requirements that exceed this figure.

They are also suitable for bifocal, varifocal and prismatic lenses but please note, we cannot add varifocal or prismatic prescriptions ourselves - please buy the sunglasses only and refer the work to your optician.

If you choose to order line bifocals, we will make a segment that stretches up to 8mm in height from the bottom of the lens, for your 'reading' part. If you would like this segment to be smaller or larger, please contact us with your specific requirements.

PD (Pupillary Distance)

This is the measurement between the centres of your eye pupils, across your regular glasses. Your optician will have measured your PD when you took your eye test, but they do not always provide the information. If you're not sure what your PD is, or your optician will not give it to you (in the UK they are not obliged to), ask someone to measure it by placing a ruler against your regular glasses. Do not take a measurement with the ruler flat against your face because this will provide an incorrect reading.

Most PD's are in the range of 58 - 70mm. Please note that, if your PD is above 69mm, these sunglasses will not be suitable for you.

If you do not know what your PD is and you are having difficulties obtaining or measuring it, you can leave the box blank. Should we need to know an accurate PD we will contact you.

How Long Does it Take to Make My Prescription?

Turnaround times from date of order is typically 7 - 10 days for UK orders, and a little longer for overseas.

Can You Fit Varifocal or Prismatic Lenses?

Please note that we cannot fit varifocal or prismatic lenses - your optician will be able to help with these requirements.

I Am Not in the UK - Will You Still Add My Prescription?

Yes! Our full prescription service is now available to customers worldwide and there are no extra fees.

Conformity

Rapid Eyewear products conform to British, European and US standards for sunglasses and protective equipment testing. They offer 100% UVA / UVB (uv400) protection.

Choosing Lens Materials

You will notice we offer a choice of prescription lens materials. The standard, cheapest option is C39, which offers adequate safety protection in most situations (remember, you have an impact-resistant polycarbonate tinted lens sitting in front of this). If you want even more protection, select polycarbonate lenses instead. Polycarbonate offers a formidable 'second line' of defence for your eyes in the event of an accident.

Retainer Strap

If you intend to use Pro Performance Photo for open-helmet or off-road riding, we recommend you consider adding a retainer strap to your purchase. You can do this by clicking on the relevant button near the top of this page before completing your purchase.

Extra Tinted lenses

A wide range of additional, interchangeable tinted lenses can be purchased for this product. You can view the full range here.
